Our Story

Belleau Wood Brewing Company was founded in 2012 by Michael Turon and based on the pride and rich tradition of the Marine Corps coupled with the patriotic love for brewing craft beer. Michael proudly served in the Marine Corps and fought in Iraq. The company embraces the Core values and ensures Honor, Courage and Commitment go into each and every batch of Belleau Wood brew.

The Name

The Brewery was named in memory of the World War I Battle of Belleau Wood. It is there, that United States Marines of the Fourth Brigade, American Expeditionary Forces, traversed an open wheatfield against heavy German machine gun fire and engaged the entrenched Germans in nearly four weeks of intense fighting. During the battle, it is said that the Germans referred to them as Teufel Hunde —Devil Dogs—for their fierce fighting. This legacy lives on through one of the proudly earned nicknames for U.S. Marines, Devil Dog.

Why we started?

Coming from a long line of warriors dating back to the Revolutionary War, Michael’s dedication to mission accomplishment is translated to all aspects of his life. As a Marine, he had the pleasure of traveling to far off, distant lands and encountered a colorful array of cultures and flavors.

Always seeking personal and professional improvement, Michael continued to broaden his horizons and went on earn an Electrical Engineering degree from San Diego State University and a Master’s Degree in Business at the University of Phoenix. He also realized success as an International businessman with products in China and Australia.
Michael has studied brewing and craft beers for over 16 years, and turned his desire to create his own good beer into reality with the founding of Belleau Wood Brewing Company.

His worldly travels have led to inspirations to some of the unique flavors found in Belleau Wood’s beers.
Family and friends are extremely important. One of Michael’s favorite past times is enjoying a nice, cold beer with a good buddy.

Cheers and Semper Fidelis.
